Is it legal to hire a private investigator?
The profession of private investigator is subject to strict legislation. As long as the law of May 18, 2024, is respected, it is completely legal to hire a private detective.
This is particularly the case when it is necessary to provide tangible evidence in the context of an investigation (for example, a character investigation), divorce proceedings (in particular to protect children put in danger by ex-spouses or to calculate alimony), runaways or the search for missing persons.
A company also has the right, under certain conditions, to monitor or surveil employees and workers if it suspects them of theft, fraud, or false incapacity for work. The report provided by the private agent can be filed with a lawyer or used to make informed decisions.
